The kawner (Newark ese for corner) was the corner of Clinton Place & Weequahic Avenue And the home of Hattoff's candy store At that time (the 1950's) candy stores were an important part of social society The "boys" met there before, after and during dates You'd go out on a date, drop her off and meet back at Hattoff's to report to the other boys To you girls whether or not you actually "put out" In the reports you mainly did The boys were who you called when your car broke down in the middle of nowhere at 2AM! When there was a tragedy, like a death or wedding We put on our best bib & tucker & presenred ourselves Although I seem to recall I wasn't invited to Mel & Rhoda's wedding And wasn't an usher at Gene & Suzies oldest son's wedding Although I'm old & memory fails
As we married & reproduced our get togethers became less frequent I recall being invited to Gene & Suzies for dinner & they weren't home Sure it was an oversight
